Four-eyed Angels

My What's On? Wednesday post was ignited on the Charlie's Angels fan forum.

It appears that guys won't make passes at Angels who wear glasses.

It seems that the Angels only wore glasses when:

their cover was as a secretary;

or better yet, with a wig, as a drab secretary;

or a reporter;

or to appear studious;

or prim and conservative;

or nerdy/geeky (or the female equivalent);

or they were used to frustrate a man they were conning;

or they needed a prop in a musical;

or they wanted to disguise themselves from people who may recognize them.

Then came Tiffany.

Tiffany is the only Angel to appear wearing prescription glasses. She wore them throughout one episode called Angels Go Truckin' as regular glasses and tinted for sunglasses.

Except for a cameo appearance in Caged Angel when Tiff and Kelly played nuns, she never wore them again.

She may not have worn them much on the show, but they definitely left an impression on fans. Either they really like them or they completely despise them. I fall in the "really like them" category. For 1979, Shelley Hack's glasses were very fashion forward. Her aviator glasses were very stylish and androgynous. Maybe that's why other people didn't like them. They felt that they should have been more feminine. I, personally, would have liked to have seen her wear them more often. Oh well, as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
